Peace like a river in my soul

So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied. Acts 9:31

Walking in the fear of the LORD. Practicing the presence of God. Under the bright blue sky, overlistening the varied clutter of downtown whistles, honking and sirens slicing through the rumble, waiting prayerfully for the beginning of day looming with possibilities, while reflecting on those past, swept under the bridge like the steady Chicago river.

So many moments of possibilities in this city, where each of us took faltering steps into adulthood. The good, the bad and the ugly have all melded into one big life stream, with mingled glints of sunlight and cold shadowed pockets.

And this is the Comfort of the Spirit. That He Is, and Was, and Will Be present. Through it all. Both to will and to work His good purpose, and as Our Shepherd, guiding and protecting and healing His often wayward lambs as we cavort and stumble through this land.

And we are being built up, stronger because our strength is His, and not our own. Not my own. And may I rest in this peace of His purpose. Peace like a river in my soul.
