Take up your bed and walk

When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Mark 2:5

For all of my life I have focused on one aspect of this declaration. The same one that the crowd noticed: Jesus was claiming to be equal to God. Because God can do anything.

Even forgive sins before Jesus died on the cross for them. Which sent me scurrying to all of the different cross-references and translations and Bible scholars. And there is a lot of sin being forgiven before the cross, the fulcrum of history.

And the God Is Not Bound By Time explanation is true. He is not.

But it is also clear from this conversation over a man long helpless and hopeless it that God can do anything. And I think that there is way too much talk about how He, the Creator of the Universe is bound by this supposed free will of mankind that stands between Himself and His plan of redemption that He put into place before the beginning of Time, the framework He created to for mortal man to measure His Power and Work.

And the cross with His beloved Son lifted up to bring all men to Himself is a stake clearly marking He can and will do anything. Everything. To restore all things unto Himself.

Glory.
