Little Sparrows

Jesus taught us, saying: “There is no need to be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom.”  Luke 12:32

There is much tenderness in His voice.  So many lost little sheep, thousands on the hill. So many had “gathered together that they were trampling one another.”

And look around you: the unforgotten sparrows, the fat and sleek ravens, the glorious lilies lifting proud faces in the sun.  Do not be afraid.

And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.

And indeed He has proven faithful.  I remember particularly His promise to provide an education for the girls when we drove out of Mexico with five tattered suitcases and an orange van with shag carpeting.  And He certainly has taken care of that.

And in these times of uncertainty, with all the pretenses of independence crashing down around us, we have the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as our Father.

And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried.  For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them.  Instead, seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.
