“Jesus looked steadily at him and he was filled with love for him…” Mark 10:19
Even in the middle of our misguided actions and efforts of what is important, Jesus looks at us with piercing understanding, and is filled with tender love.
The world is full of evil broken selfish ugliness. We got it. But, each soul also holds up a small shadowed mirror reflecting the LORD God and His image in which He made us. No matter how tentatively. And each one of us is a For-God so-loved-the-world beloved child. He can see through the hardened crust that has built up over the years to that first wavering step and an unmasked delight in stars and twigs and caterpillars. The child to whom He calls, “Come unto me.”
And here, the rich young ruler missed the boat. While he was carefully dotting the i’s and crossing the tildes, the big picture went unnoticed. Yet Jesus was filled with love for him and left the disciples with this promise, “With God, everything is impossible.”
Dear Jesus, Give me Your eyes to see and Your heart to love.
